Supporting documents for a visa application

All documents submitted by customers applying for standard Tier 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are scanned at the visa application centre (VAC) and sent electronically to UK Visas and Immigration.

The new process allows you to keep your supporting documents during the application process. Wherever possible, your documents will be returned to you once they have been scanned at the visa application centre.

You can also submit photocopies you have made yourself, but they must be clear and legible.

You or your sponsor should send your settlement visa application along with supporting documents to the UK address below.

Prior to sending any documentation to the address above, you should make sure that the courier company you are planning to use will deliver to Post Office (PO) Box addresses in the UK.

Supporting documents should be sent as soon as possible to the UK after you have completed the online application form, and should include your GWF number. The documents may be sent before your application, passport and biometric data are submitted.

Once you have prepared your documents, please submit them along with a suitably sized pre-paid, self-addressed envelope for return to your chosen address.

Failure to follow these instructions may result in a delay to the assessment of your  application, even if you have paid for the priority service.

Please note that supporting documents may be returned before you receive a decision on the application. This is a normal part of the process and there is no need to contact UK Visas and Immigration.

In order to avoid delays in the VAC customers must follow the instructions below:

  1. Photocopies can be submitted, but they must be clear and legible.

  2. All documents must be A4 size.

  3. Any documents which are smaller or larger than A4 must be photocopied onto A4 sized paper. This includes previous passports and photographs

  4. All documents must be free from any clips, pins, or staples before they are submitted.

  5. Torn, crumpled or heavily creased documents cannot be accepted. Therefore they must be photocopied onto A4 sized paper before they are submitted.

  6. Documents should not be laminated

You must sort and separate the documents that you want to submit with your application.

Download and print out the barcode separators document. It provides a barcode separator page for each document category. It also lists examples of valid documents.
