Application and Document Checks

Details and Key benefits of service

Have your completed application checked by VFS Global staff before it is sent to UKVI for processing.

Customers who have completed and printed their visa application form can pay an additional fee to have their documents checked by VFS Global staff before they are sent to UKVI for processing.

Staff will check that all supporting documents are available as per the checklist provided by UKVI prior to sending the same across to UKVI.

If VFS staff find that there are missing documents, applicants will have the option to submit these by email after their appointment, but within 7 working days from the date of their submission.

Using the application and document checks service does not imply or guarantee that your application will be successful.

Available to all applicants.

How does one apply?

  • Customers who have completed and printed their application form can pay an additional fee to have the documents checked by VFS staff before it is sent to UKVI for processing. Staff shall check that documents are complete as per the checklist provided by UKVI before sending it for processing.

  • If VFS staff find that there are missing documents, customers will have the option to submit these by email after their appointment, within 7 working days. Using the ‘Application and Document Checks’ service does not imply or guarantee that applications will be successful.

Certification Service

Details and Key benefits of service

Certification allows an applicant to retain their original documents.

You will need to bring your original documents along with a coloured photocopy of the documents you require to submit, which will be verified by the VFS Global staff.

Once this has been authenticated by the VFS Global staff the originals will be handed back to the applicant.

For Tier 2, 4 and 5 applicants are required to submit original documents as specified under the UKVI immigration rules.

While applicants will note that the British High Commission may choose to contact you in order to present your original set of documents, if required.

Applicant may request for this service on arrival at the visa application centre.

100 LKR per document page.

Courier Return Service

Details and Key benefits of service

Applicants can have their passport and documents delivered to their residence or office by paying a courier charge, thereby saving on time and effort.

Applicants are advised to read and sign the terms and conditions available in the visa application centre, before applying, in order that they submit a signed copy of this declaration with their visa application.

Available to all applicants applying.

How does one apply?

Please contact an officer at the visa application centre, for the courier request form along with your address.

This service can be availed of at the time of submission of the application at the visa application centre. It will not be available once an application has been submitted.

Department of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) levy approval service

Details and Key benefits of service

An approval from the Immigration and Emigration Department of Sri Lanka (DIE) is mandatory in order to transport Sri Lankan passports to UK Visas and Immigration Office in Chennai for visa processing.

Documents required for DIE clearance -

  • The DIE levy request form to be completed if you wish to obtain the DIE approval through VFS Global.
  • Copy of current passport bio data and observations pages
  • Birth certificate copy for children under 16
  • No objection letter from parents for children under 16

Eligibility to use service

All applicants will require DIE clearance before they send their passport and supporting documents to Chennai to be accessed.

How does one apply?

Applicants can obtain this approval directly from DIE office before they submit their visa application to VFS Global

Applicants can obtain this service at the visa application centre when coming to submit the application

Form Filling Assistance

Details and Key benefits of service

This service provides customers with assistance in filling out the visa application form on the AccessUK website.

VFS Global staff will read out the questions in the form, and will record the answers verbatim on behalf of the applicant.

Applicants will need to provide an email id for registration on the portal in order to manage their application and will need to answer all the questions mentioned in the form in order to apply.

Staff will not be able to answer questions on an applicant’s behalf or fill in answers based on their opinion or understanding.

How does one apply?

To avail of our form filling assistance kindly visit the visa application centre between 0800hrs – 1300hrs from Monday to Friday except on public holidays and weekends.

Group Appointment

Details and Key benefits of service

Customers travelling in a group can use this service to ensure the whole group can apply at the same visa application centre at a particular time and day. This optional service is extended to all groups including tour operators, large families, conferences etc.

There is no restriction to the minimum size of the group.

Beneficial mainly for those applicants travelling in a group.

Keep My Passport When Applying

Details and Key benefits of service

Keep my passport when applying is a premium service that enables customers at the point of submitting their application to retain their passport for the majority of the application processing period.

Please return your passport to UK Visa Application Centre at the earliest possible opportunity to allow UKVI to complete the application process. If you fail to return your passport UKVI will be unable to complete the application process.

This premium service offers customers greater flexibility with their travel schedule, while their visa application is being processed. Consequently, the customer is able to avail of other travel arrangements or to apply for other visas while their application is being processed.

Eligibility to use service

This service is open to most applicants who wish to apply in any visa category. Though we would advise you to check with the visa application centre to confirm if you are eligible, prior to paying for this service.

Those applicants who qualify and pay supplementary fees for, Priority Visa (PV) or Business Express Programme (BEP), will not be eligible for this service.

How does one apply?

Applicants are required to complete an online application form then book an appointment at the visa application centre (VAC). Please click here 

If the applicant wishes to pay for this service, they can notify the VAC staff on arrival or pay online at VFS payment gateway prior to arriving at the VAC.

In order to avail the service applicants are requested to bring the following:

A copy of the entire passport in either colour or black and white, on white paper min 60 gsm, photocopied 600 dpi minimum, actual size without any reduction or magnification, and orientated in landscape.

If applicants choose to submit their own copies, the VFS staff will be required to check the copy of the entire passport against the original passport to ensure it is a true and accurate copy.

Applicants may also choose to use the photocopy service at the VAC (at an extra cost) or submit a copy of their passport that meets the following criteria -

Once the application has been submitted and all appropriate fees have been paid, a barcode sticker will be placed on the cover of the passport and the passport will then be returned to the applicant. The applicant will need to sign that they accept the terms of the service.  Further, the applicant will need to agree not to remove the barcode which has been placed on the cover of the passport.

Cost

LKR 10,455 per applicant.

On arrival, the VAC staff can be notified - alternately choose to pay online at VFS payment gateway prior to arriving at the VAC.

Online Payment Assistance

Details and Key benefits of service

Online payment assistance allows you pay for your visa application in cash, while using a VFS Global credit card to make your visa fee payment.

Eligibility to use service

Available to all applicants applying.

How does one apply?

Applicant may request for this service on arrival at the visa application centre.

Cost

3,110 LKR per application / transaction.

If the applicant wishes to avail this service, they can notify the VAC staff on arrival and pay online at VFS payment gateway or pay cash at the application centre.

Premium Lounge

Details and Key benefits of service

For those applicants who may require personalised assistance of a VFS Global staff member to guide them through the submission process while enjoying the luxury of a lounge service – this is the premium service tailor made to their needs.

The premium lounge facility is available at the visa application centre in Colombo.

The premium lounge service includes -

  • Separate lounge with personalised service by dedicated VFS Global staff
  • Classy ambience with refreshments
  • Quicker submission of applications
  • SMS alert on the status of your application
  • Photocopying service for your documents

Kindly note - Your visa will be processed and decided by the UK Visas and Immigration.

Use of the premium service lounge does not affect the processing time or decision of your application.

Priority Visa Service

Details and Key benefits of service

You can pay for a Priority Visa service for your visit, work or study application (‘non settlement’). This will put your application at the front of the queue at every stage of the decision-making process. The cost of this service is in addition to your visa application fee and is non-refundable if the visa application is refused, or in exceptional cases, if it takes longer to process. Using the Priority Visa service does not guarantee that your application will be successful. All visa applicants must meet the requirements of the UK Immigration Rules.

How long does a Priority Visa application take?

UKVI aims to make a decision on your Priority Visa application, and contact you to let you know that your passport is ready to be collected within 5 working days from when you submit your biometric information.

However, every application is unique, and if your application is not straightforward, it may not be possible to meet this timescale. If this is the case, your application will still be put at the front of the queue at every stage of the decision-making process, and UKVI will aim to process your application within global customer service standards. Your application may not be straightforward if you have:

  • been refused a visa for the UK, and/or;
  • been refused leave to enter the UK, and/or;
  • been deported, removed, or otherwise required to leave the UK, and/or;
  • overstayed a period of leave in the UK, and/or;
  • had leave to remain in the UK curtailed by the Home Office, and/or;
  • been refused leave to remain in the UK by the Home Office, and/or;
  • been refused a visa for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United States of America, or the Schengen countries, and/or;
  • you have been interviewed, detained, or prosecuted by the police for any offence in the UK or elsewhere, and/or;
  • you have an unspent criminal conviction in any country, and/or;
  • you have committed a criminal offence in any country.

If you fall into one of these categories, you may not want to use the Priority Visa service, as UKVI may be unable to process your application within the 5-day timescale.

All visitors, including first time visitors, work and study applicants can avail of this premium service.

Those applicants who have made an online appointment on arriving at the application centre may choose to avail a priority visa service without the need to create another separate appointment, only if there are unallocated slots available.

Cost

LKR 37,720 (including service tax) per application.

Settlement Priority Visa

Details and Key benefits of service

You can pay for a Priority Visa service which puts your family migration / settlement application at the front of the queue at every stage of the decision-making process. The cost of this service is in addition to your visa application fee and is non-refundable if the visa application is refused, or in exceptional cases, takes longer to process. Using the Priority Visa service does not imply or guarantee that your application will be successful. All visa applicants must meet the requirements of the UK

How long does a Priority Visa (family migration / settlement) application take?

UKVI aims to make a decision on your Priority Visa (family migration / settlement) application, and contact you to let you know that your passport is ready to be collected within 30 working days from when you submit your biometric information.

However, every application is unique, and if your application is not straightforward, it may not be possible to meet this timescale. If this is the case, your application will still be put at the front of the queue at every stage of the decision-making process, and UKVI will aim to process your application within global customer service standards. Your application may not be straightforward if you have:

  • been refused a visa for the UK, and/or;
  • been refused leave to enter the UK, and/or
  • been deported, removed, or otherwise required to leave the UK, and/or;
  • overstayed a period of leave in the UK, and/or;
  • had leave to remain in the UK curtailed by the Home Office, and/or;

SMS Service

Details and Key benefits of service

VFS Global is pleased to offer a premium SMS service which updates customers in Sri Lanka on the progress of their UK visa application.

The easy to use SMS service sends an automated message to the applicant's mobile phone at various stages of the visa application process. The service supports the transfer of SMS text in English only.

This is followed up with an automated message to the applicants registered email address, informing them of the status of their visa application. At the end of the process you will receive an automated email message (in English only) to your registered email address, informing you that the UK Border Agency has made a decision on your visa application and your documents are available for collection at the visa application centre or through courier if you have availed of this service.

Walk-in Without Appointment

Details and Key benefits of service

Customers who need to travel urgently or who can’t book an appointment for their preferred date or time, can pay extra to get a walk in appointment. This service is also available for those who turn up late for their appointments.

If you have already applied online and booked an appointment then you must cancel any existing appointments before using this service.

Walk-in applicants could submit their visa application after 14:00 hrs from Monday to Friday with the exception of public holidays.

Available to all applicants applying.

How does one apply?

Applicants are requested to walk in to the application centre and request to avail this service in the event the applicant is unable to get an appointment online.

Applicants walking in will be accommodated on demand of the visa application centre

If you have already applied online and booked an appointment then you must cancel any existing appointments before using this service.
